School Rules

Registration
  1. All pupils must complete and return a registration form at the beginning of the term year in order to show commitment to the school for the coming year.
School Fees
  1. All fees must be paid within 2 weeks of the start of term. A penalty charge of £1 will be added to the bill for late payment plus a surcharge of 10% will be added for each week of fees that are not paid before the end of the term and for each week they are late. Cheques payable to “The Riley School of Dance.” Cheques under £50 will not be accepted.
  2. Fees are to be paid for the WHOLE of the term, there are no reductions or repayments for classes missed, this includes illness and injuries.
  3. Private lessons will be charged for in full if cancellation is not notified 48 hours prior to the lesson beginning. If pupils are going on holiday the school must be informed in writing or charges will still be made.
Attendance
  1. Absences of more than 3 weeks may result in a loss of placement at the school. Please inform the school of absences likely to exceed 3 weeks in writing before the absence starts, where practicable.
  2. Pupils are expected to be punctual for classes and must apologise and account for any periods of lateness or absence.
Uniform
  1. R.A.D uniform must be worn for all ballet classes. Riley tracksuits and woollies may be worn for the “Warm-up” only. No sweat pants or T-shirts in class.
  2. Jazz uniform may be any colour but pupils must wear jazz pants or tracksuit bottoms. No skirts or jeans. Jazz trainers or shoes must be worn.
  3. Tap classes, pupils must wear a red leotard, black tights, black shorts or Riley tracksuit bottoms. No skirts, jeans or trousers to be worn.
  4. Correct footwear is essential for the safety and welfare of our pupils and to enable them to perform to the best of their ability. If unsure please seek guidance from the school.
Behaviours
  1. Pupils must not be left unsupervised between classes as no responsibility can be taken for pupils out of class. Supervision is not provided.
  2. Pupils must not attend classes at other dance schools. Summer schools, pantomimes, theatre groups may be discussed with the school for authority to attend.
  3. No body jewellery or watches to be worn in any classes.
  4. Hair must be tidy for all classes. Grade 2 ballet and upwards – hair must be up in a bun or in a classical style.
  5. The school holds no responsibility for injuries or for any personal items lost or stolen. Valuable items must not be left in the changing rooms. Please check lost property regularly.
  6. Changing rooms must be treated with respect - place all rubbish in the bins provided. Failure to adhere to this rule will result in a ban on food and drink at the school. These are your changing rooms so in the interest of safety, welfare and hygiene, keep them.
  7. Chewing gum/Bubbly gum and cake are “BANNED” from the school.
  8. Pupils waiting for their class to begin must be both quiet and considerate to other dancers in the studio. Parents of pupils under 10 are responsible for their behaviour between classes.
  9. Nobody shall interrupt classes once they are in progress unless in an emergency: fire; serious danger to pupil or buildings etc. Personal queries or requests can only be discussed after class or by phone (01302 327081) between 9am and 3pm.
  10. Courtesy and consideration toward teachers and other pupils and parents is expected at all times.
  11. Private lessons – parents may watch 1 in 4 lessons only.
Performances
  1. Pupils participating must attend classes regularly and be available for extra rehearsals if required. It is essential for all pupils to attend all rehearsals 4 weeks prior to the event.
Examinations
  1. Teachers will encourage entry to examinations only when the level of technique, understanding, appreciation and performance of classical ballet and all other aspects of dance has been reached. However, a minimum of 50 classes must have been attended before exam entry is considered.
Vocational Schools
  1. Auditions for vocational schools must always be discussed with Julie Riley prior to application. This includes York, NBT and Summer schools.
